Goodbye

This morning my parents and I had to say goodbye again. Saying goodbye is something that I will probably never get used to. I really didn't want them to leave yet.

When I woke up today I got ready and went over to their apartment so we could have breakfast together.

They packet the last things and we loaded the car.

Afterwards we went for another walk along the Fjord and had a coffe and a piece of cake in a cafe next to the water.

Looking back we have been so lucky with the weather the past days and had a wonderful time together (although it went by way too fast).

Velkommen til Aalborg

Today we spent the afternoon in Aalborg. I took my parents to “Jomfru Ane Gade” and showed them where the German beer bars are. Then we decided to have a coffee break in a café called Baresso. (Their muffins are the best!)

Afterwards we went for a walk and wanted to go to the different harbors in Aalborg. It took us more time than we thought it would, but the weather was really nice so we enjoyed our walk before we went back into the city to find something to eat.

In the end we decided to drive back to Løgstør to have dinner in the apartment my parents stay in. So when we arrived in Løgstør we went to the supermarket to buy all the things we needed to eat Danish hotdogs.

After dinner we watched a German Crime thriller and had a cozy last evening together in Løgstør.

"Skagerrak meets Kattegat"

Grenen

Today my parents, Tania, Fatou and I were on our trip to Skagen.

Skagen is he northernmost place in Denmark almost 110km northeast of Aalborg. Grenen - a long sandbank in the North of Skagen - is the junction point of the "Skagerrak" (Northsea) and the "Kattegat" (Baltic sea).

It is also considered to be one of the best places to observe different sea animals. Today we e.g. saw two seals (a dead one lying on the beach and another one swimming in the water) and a starfish.

The places we've been to today were amazing (It's so hard to find words to describe the nature here, you just have to see it yourself) although walking through the dunes was a very "sandy experience". When we were on top of the dune the wind blew sand into our eyes all over again so we couldn't really enjoy the sight. (The picture of me might also give you an impression of how windy it was.)

But anyways, we had a lot of fun today and ended our trip with pizza, salat, calzone and some wine in a pizzeria in Løgstør.

Little piece of paradise

Today after work I went to the apartment my parents are staying in to have some coffee and cake (to be more precise: “Gulerodskage - appetitlig og lækker“) before we started our trip to the Danish west coast /  North Sea. We went to different beaches around Svinklov and enjoyed the sun, the salt-breeze and just the time we were able to spend together. It was so nice to have the chance to take my parents to different places in the area that I now live in and to let them be part of what seems to be a little piece of paradise on earth.

Velkommen til!

Finally my parents arrived in Løsgtør this afternoon and picked me up at Limfjordsskolen. It was so good to see them again (but it was kind of strange to speak German to someone in person).

First of all we went to my flat to drop off all the things they had brought to Denmark for me (Winter clothes, my guitar, Milka chocolate and some more things...). My room was such a mess.

Sadly the weather was really bad today. It was raining so much that we had to use the car to have a look around in Løgstør. But anyways, after our little tour we had dinner and a cozy evening in the apartment my parents are staying in.

I'm so looking forward to the coming days!

On tour with a 'true Wiking'

Today our Viking friend from Løgstør invited us to go on a trip and then have dinner with him. He took us to the seaside and showed us some of his favorite places.

Our first stop was an "Iceberg" at the end of Løgstør. It is actually a mountain consisting of chalk but if you drive past it it looks like an iceberg in the middle of the field.

Afterwards we went to see a huge uninhabitated area close to the sea. Apart from some old, hidden graves there is literally nothing out there. It feels like you can walk miles and miles without seeing a house, a shop or any human being.

So we went for a walk before we got back into the car and drove to another beautiful place at the sea which you can see in the first picture.

Afterwards we cooked together and had dinner at his house. The food was sooooo good.

Four Nations - One Table

Today we met our mentor Rina for the first time. We met her in a Cafe in Aalborg and talked about our expectations of the coming months in Denmark, the camps that we will go to and about all the experiences we've made so far.
After a while we decided we wanted to look for a bar to have a beer. Rina took us to the "Jomfru Ane Gade", which is a street in Aalborg famous for all it's bars and parties. We had a beer in one of her favourite bars called "Zwei große Bier Bar" (engl: Two big beers bar) and continued our conversation about funny cultural differences and characteristics. When Rina had to leave and we went on to "Heidi's Bier Bar" to have another beer. We had such a nice evening filled with hilarious conversations and histeric laughters.

Lessons to be learned

Today I took some of the students to their physiotherapy with one of the school's smaller cars.
Then I went back and had an introduction to the busses together with Tania and Fatou. We drove a view kilometers just to try it out and went back to the school's parking lot. Afterwards we were taught how to use the different types of lifts and how to fix the wheelchairs in the different busses.

The more I am used to most of the student's activities and appointments, the better I can help and the more I enjoy the time with the students. So it's only getting better day by day.

Party at Limfjordsskolen

Today was a special day at school. Once a year the school invites different bands to have a concert at Limfjordsskolen. The school concert of 2015 took place today. The band AndyOp played and the students had a lot of fun dancing and listening to the music. Here is a short video of it.

Blessed sunday

This was the most blessed Sunday I've ever had in Denmark. (This has only been the second so far ha ha but never mind)
I got up at 7am and even though I still have a cold and didn't manage to go to bed early yesterday, I felt so awake and  fit as a fiddle. So at eight o'clock I was as ready as I've ever been and a couple from Løgstør who is going to another church in Aalborg picked me up, gave me a lift to Aalborg and finally dropped me off at the house of Klaus and his lovely family. Half an hour later I went to their church together with his wife and their son. While Jonas was rehearsing with the worship band Hanne and I sat down in another room and had a very good conversation. I seriously feel so blessed to know her. When we went back to the bigger room the service started soon. Surprisingly someone in the back was translating the Service into English so I could understand everything. After the Service we had a cup of coffee and ate some cookies. As far as I can assess that from my first impressions Bethel Kirke Aalborg (Click here to see a short video of the church) is such a loving and faithful community and I’ll definitely come back as often as possible.
Hanne also invited me to have dinner with her and Jonas because I wanted to visit another church in the afternoon and had a lot of time left. So we had lunch together and a really cozy midday/afternoon, before she dropped me off at “EuroLifeKirke” (See their flyer in the picture below).

When I went into the room I was immediately welcomed by different people. The church was a lot smaller than I thought but you could really feel that it’s not about the number of people attending the service but about the community, the conversations and all the things you share. Even in this small church (there were less than 15 people attending the afternoon service) there was someone translating everything into English. I felt really welcomed there as well. Their main church community is based in Aarhus and they just started doing these afternoon services in Aalborg so I’m looking forward to being part of it and seeing the development of this community during the next ten months.
