Vilnius

Vilnius - Lithuania's capital - is such a beautiful city! It has about half a million inhabitants which is still quite a lot in relation to Lithuania's population. We stayed at a hostel in the city centre, where we shared a room with more or less seven other people each night. We took part in a guided tour through the city, went for a walk at night, tasted some more traditional food, spend time shopping and discovering the city and its' surroundings. If you're a volunteer in Denmark Lithuania seems like a paradise since everything (at least food and drinks) are so cheap, so you can actually enjoy spending some money. The dangerous thing about it: You spend a looooot of money, because you stop counting! Anyway, we've definitely had a great week! Today it's time to go back to Kaunas from where we will take our flight at 6a.m. tomorrow morning. So somehow we're already back on our way to Copenhagen. Denmark here we come!

Panevezys

"I heard you are going to be in Lithuania next week!? Did you know that Limfjordsskolen has close connections to a day care centre there? We visit each other every year! If you want to visit and see their project, I can contact them!?", our boss said when he heard about our holiday plans last week.
So this morning we took the bus to a town called Panevezys in order to visit Limfjordsskolens Lithuanian friends. It is a day care centre where young people with severe difficulties are involved in different activities. There are four EVS Volunteers working at the centre. We met one of them today. After we went for a walk through the city we met even more EVS Volunteers, working in a school next to the project we've been visiting. We spend the afternoon together outside, going for some coffee and enjoying the sunshine.

It is so nice to experience how easily EVS people connect to each other.

Kaunas

Friday:
Yesterday Tania, Fatou and me took the bus to Copenhagen. We slept in the apartment of other EVS Volunteers and took our flight to Lithuania this morning. We flew from CPH to Kaunas.

Kaunas is the secomd biggest city in Lithuania with around 305.000 inhabitants. The hostel we were sleeping in is located in the middle of a 2,5 km long pedestrian street in the the city centre. Today we're going to spend the evening visiting a Jazz festival which is taking place here during this weekend. But before we're going to have dinner at a traditional Lithuanian restaurant.

Saturday:
Today we had breakfast in a bakery. Coming from Denmark you feel like you want to buy the whole store. Everything is soooo cheap!! You can drink as much coffee as you want - without counting your money.
During the afternoon we have been walking around Kaunas to see more of the city. We visited churches and other old buildings, went onto a hill from where you have a great view over the whole city and walked through a park along a river. Kaunas is a very nice city and we have been very lucky with the weather today. In contrast to Denmark there is almost no wind going here so you can actually feel the heat as soon as the sun is shining. We're really enjoying our time here. Funnily, we met other EVS Volunteers from Denmark who are in Lithuania on holidays as well. We will meet up with them this evening.

Easter Holidays

On Friday I travelled from the camp in Copenhagen to a town called "Vejle". There I finally met Samuel again. We spend one night in Vejle before we travelled to Kolding the next day to visit the "Højskole" (an International Bible College) there. We really liked the place and will apply there as soon as Samuel gets back to Germany. After our tour through Kolding we took the train to Løgstør. We spent an awesome week there, visiting different places along the west cost. For our last weekend we travelled to "Esbjerg" which is located in the south-west of Denmark. From there we also took the ferry to the island "Fanø". We were so lucky with the weather and our AirBnB hosts as well! The sun was shining almost all of the days. It was my first week this year without my winter jacket. We really enjoyed every second of our time together and are deeply thankful that we were able to spend our holidays together. Now I'm back in Løgstør again, so looking forward to seeing him again in the end of May. Eight weeks left...

(All the pictures are taken with our GoPro Hero 4 black edition. It was the first time that we used it and we are so amazed by the pictures wand movies that we got to record and all the moments we have captured. The investment was definitely worth it!)
